The problem is that you are getting error code 0x80071AC3 when attempting to use a hard drive or USB drive. It is very common with portable hard drives and external hard drives. These drives typically see more ‘rough’ use and as a result 0x80071AC3 is more frequently seen.
The exact error message looks like:
An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem
Error 0x80071AC3: The operation could not be completed because the volume is dirty. Please run chkdsk and try again.
This problem is most often seen with portable hard drives, laptop hard drives and external drives. It can also happen on older hard drives as well. The cause of 0x80071AC3 are bad sectors. Data is stored on your hard drive in sectors and the ones that the windows is attempting to save to have gone bad over time.
Bad sectors can be caused by unexpected/sudden system shutdown from power failure, holding down the power button to force shutdown, ot pulling the computer plug from the wall (on desktops).
Try running chkdsk x: /B
The /B switch will cause check disk to re-evaluate the bad clusters and try to repair them again.
the “X” in in the above example is the drive letter. In your case it may be D: E: or F:
